These earrings have become the pair I keep for the most special occasions. One such occasion was my book launch by the awe-inspiring Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, the feisty Brigid Inder the then Gender Adviser to the Prosecutor, and the very charming Brett Mason, Australia's Ambassador to the Netherlands (and doppelganger for Geoffrey Rush). The launch was held at the palatial residence of the Ambassador and was such a rewarding and happy occasion for me. Robbie came over for the event, and having him by my side and sharing the experience made it an even more wonderful event. Catherine (Day 50) was there too; it was fabulous having her there and extra special given her mum, Helen (Day 50) was one of three wise women to whom I dedicated the book. She wore Helen's red beads!
Rob and I worked our way home, via a trip to London to see Pauline and John, where I gave a presentation at LSE. Back in Sydney I had another fabulously fun launch at UNSW. Andy organised it and the President of the Aust Human Rights Commission, Gillian Triggs did the honours. As an international lawyer, she really understood the point I was making and made great comments. I wore my beautiful pearls that night too, and had so many special friends and my family, including Betty, at my side.
We have Betty with us again tonight. Today she caught the train all the way from Armidale to be here on Friday for 'grandparents day' at James school. He and Angus are so lucky to have such a devoted Nanna, and we're lucky to get the chance to see her, albeit for such a quick trip. Molly thinks so too!
On Day 136 I'm feeling pretty good. It's been miserable weather, so I took the chance to sleep in after a restless night, but I did some stretching instead of a walk to try and keep that fluid moving. This morning was the first time in ages that the scales dipped a little, so maybe its slowly starting to shift. Tomorrow I have another doctor's appointment, this time with surgeon Elizabeth, so she might have some advice and other tips. I've been completely spoilt by Rob today who baked a date and walnut loaf, made me a pumpkin and sweet potato soup, then cooked a delicious roast chicken dinner - I know I'm spoilt.
Tomorrow I plan to conclude the earring leg of the journey with a wrap up. I'm still pondering next steps with the blog, but I think a less regular bulletin, featuring other pieces of jewellery might be on the cards!
