Day 68: Tribeca silver threads

Happy days in Central Park, NYC, 2010
In September 2010, after recovering from the first round of breast cancer treatment, my sisters and I travelled to the East Coast of the US. I was scheduled to give a paper at APSA in Washington, so we thought we'd make a trip of it and spend a few days in New York before heading to DC. We had a great time seeing the sights and hanging out together for the first time in many years, without any of us having to juggle time together with family responsibilities. We were also able to catch up with Lisa in NYC, and Fiona and other friends in Washington. It was a happy time.

As a souvenir of that trip I purchased these silver thread earrings from a small shop in Tribeca just near the Highline. I don't wear them often, but I like their simplicity and lightness.

I needed a bit of lightness today...! It might be April fools day, but the docetaxel is no joke. I know some chemo nurses call it 'the bitch' as opposed to 'red devil' FEC, and now I see why. It's pretty cruel and cuts deep - promoting all sorts of aches and pains and absoulte exhaustion. Today seems to be worse than yesterday. I understand the 'nadir' with this treatment is about Day 8, rather than Day 10, so I'm hoping that means I metabolise it quickly and start the upswing soon.

The morning of Day 68 was spent lying in. Then I had a obsession about baking some of Mum's standards - biscuits and passionfruit slice and another fruit crumble. Once I'd finished I lost interest in eating it as it all tastes the same. Given the calorific content, my lack of interest is probably for the best - but now I have a cupboard full of sugary treats.

After an afternoon working on the puzzle and a chat with Lindy and Nat, I went out for a late afternoon walk/shuffle with Angus, Molly and Robbie. Buckland Park was bathed in a gorgeous golden light and I was conscious of a hint of autumn in the air, and turing back the clock tonight. The days are marching on...
